The landscape, dotted with casuarina trees and made lively with a children’s park, is just what a family needs for the weekend. Situated 7km away from Kodungallur town, it is one of the first coastal tourism development projects as part of the Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme. The beach, now popular among travellers, can be enjoyed in two ways: one is through the main entrance with an entry fee, where the children’s park and a sand scooter ride await with a lot of refreshments to help cool off.
The other one lets you take your bike to the edge aka ‘munakkal’, as the name means in Malayalam. The river Periyar meets the sea here with the Munambam beach of the Ernakulam district on the other bank. A few Chinese fishnets can be seen at the confluence and its surroundings. You’re in luck if fisherfolk are drawing in the fresh haul. They’ll be more than happy to part with it for a good bargain.
